St. Joseph's Altar Society
The purpose of the Altar Society is:
(1) To foster a depending Christian Commitment of each member and a greater Eucharist devotion;
(2) See to the needs of the Sanctuary and Altar;
(3) Actively participate in the Parish and Diocesan Community; and
(4) Provide funeral dinners to the families of deceased members of our parish.
We currently have 6 Circles with a total of 74 members. Some of the Circles are considering merging with other circles. This will probably occur this year. The individual Circles have projects/commitments that they support – Right-to-Life, Catholic Family Services, (Maternity & Adoption Services), St. Joseph’s School, Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration, providing donations for needy families in the parish, donating our time and talents to the parish as needed.
We have two major fundraisers during the year. The first is our Smorgasbord which is always scheduled the Sunday before Ash Wednesday. The second is our plant sale which is scheduled the weekend before Mother’s Day. We also have a fall bazaar the first weekend of November.
The funds from our fundraisers are used to:
(1) Provide 4 scholarships - to St. Joseph’s Montessori, to St. Joseph’s Pre-Kindergarten, to a 5th grade student, and to a graduating senior from our parish;
(2) Provide for the upkeep of the altar and cleaning supplies; and
(3) Contribute to charity projects brought before the Executive Committee.
